doing We're looking for a seasoned Principal Data Engineer to shape
the future of customer service data products for both our Verizon
Consumer Group (VCG) and Verizon Business Group (VBG). In this
pivotal role, you'll define, drive, and execute the strategy and
vision for data products related to customer interactions (chats,
calls, cases). Your mission will be to build digital and AI-first
data products and analytical assets that directly enhance both the
customer experience and the employee experience across Verizon's
customer service teams. You'll lead the design and development of
scalable, end-to-end ETL data pipelines, with a primary focus on
Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a hands-on position requiring
deep expertise in data ingestion, curation, and product delivery.
You'll leverage your proficiency in SQL, Python, and GCP's native
tools such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, and
Spanner. While GCP is our core platform, a strong understanding of
diverse data ecosystems, including Teradata and Hadoop, will also
be highly valued for broader architectural insights. You'll also be
responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of these
critical data pipelines. Developing high-quality code that meets
standards and delivers desired functionality using cutting-edge
technology. Programing components, developing features, and
frameworks. Working independently and contributing to immediate and
cross-functional teams. Participating in design discussions and
contribute to architectural decisions. Analyzing problem
statements, break down problems, and provide solutions. Taking
ownership of large tasks, delivering on time, and mentoring team
members. Exploring alternate technologies and approaches to solve
problems. Following an agile-based approach to deliver data
products. What we’re looking for You’ll need to have: Bachelor's
degree or four or more years of work experience Six or more years
of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a
combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized
training. Hands-on experience in designing and building data
pipelines using NiFi, Airflow, or Apache Beam in GCP (Dataproc and
BigQuery) for ETL jobs. Experience in data warehousing, Data Lakes,
and big data platforms. Strong leadership, communication,
persuasion, and collaboration skills. Even better if you have one
or more of the following: Programming experience with GCP tools
such as Dataproc, Cloud Shell SDK, Cloud Composer, Google Cloud
Storage (GCS), Cloud Functions, and BigQuery. Experience
collaborating with data engineers, architects, data scientists, and
enterprise platform teams in designing and deploying data products
and ML models in production. Experience in designing and deploying
Hadoop clusters and various big data analytical tools, including
HDFS, PIG, Hive, Sqoop, Spark, and Oozie. Hands-on experience
implementing real-time solutions using Apache Beam SDK with
Dataflow, Spark, or Flink as runners. Experience with real-time
data streaming technologies such as Google Pub/Sub and Apache
Kafka. Proficiency in serialization concepts and formats such as
Avro, Parquet, and Protobuf. Experience with advanced
transformations and windowing functions in real-time data
processing. Experience with Google Dataflow templates for creating
reusable and scalable data processing pipelines. Experience with
Google Data Catalog and other Google Cloud APIs for monitoring,
querying, and billing analysis for BigQuery usage. Experience
working with at least one NoSQL database (HBase, Cassandra,
Couchbase) and one relational database (Oracle, MySQL, Teradata).
Experience on DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory and Gitlab.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to empathize and
maintain a positive attitude. Participation in technology and
industry forums on evolving data engineering. Strategic thinker
with the ability to apply a business mindset to data issues and
initiatives, crafting cross-business strategies and plans for
multiple stakeholders. GCP/AWS Cloud certifications. Familiarity
with Large Language Models and a passion for Generative AI tools.

depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and
experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential
to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be
adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the
location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time
schedule is: $120,500.00 - $231,000.00.
