Deputy Athletic Dir ector for External Relations and Revenue
Generation — Chief Revenue Officer Position Reports to: Vice
President and Director of Athletics Position Overview: The Chief
Revenue Officer (CRO) is a strategic leadership role responsible
for driving revenue growth and enhancing the financial
sustainability of St. John's Athletics. The focus of the position
is to lead and oversee the development, ticket sales, sponsorship,
external, and revenue generation areas and work with the marketing
unit of the A thletics D epartment, providing integral direction
and leadership towards achievement of local, regional, and national
engagement as well as exposure and revenue goals and initiatives.
The position will collaborate closely with the VP and Director of
Athletics, the coaches, and the administrative staff to maximize
the program's financial performance and enhance the overall
student-athlete experience. Key Responsibilities: Strategic
Planning and Revenue Generation: Develop and implement a
comprehensive revenue generation strategy aligned with the athletic
program's goals and objectives. Identify and pursue new revenue
opportunities, including working with MMR representation for
corporate partnerships, ticket sales, digital initiatives, and
capital project funding. Analyze market trends and competitor
strategies to inform revenue-generating efforts. Sponsorship and
Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain relationships with
corporate sponsors and partners to enhance funding and support for
the athletic program. Work with MMR company to negotiate and manage
sponsorship agreements, ensuring compliance and maximization of
benefits for both the sponsors and the athletic program. Ticket
Sales and Fan Engagement: Oversee ticket sales strategies to
increase attendance and revenue for all ticketed athletic events.
Develop innovative fan engagement programs and promotions to
enhance the spectator experience and loyalty. Fundraising and Donor
Relations for Athletic Development: Lead the athletic development
team to develop fundraising initiatives, including major gifts,
annual giving, and capital campaigns to support the athletic
program's budget and strategic priorities. E ngage with alumni,
donors, and community members to foster strong relationships and
encourage philanthropic support. Licensing and Merchandising:
Oversee the development and management of licensing agreements for
athletic merchandise, ensuring brand integrity and maximizing
revenue. Collaborate with vendors to create a diverse range of
licensed products that appeal to fans and support the athletic
program's brand. Leadership and Team Development: Lead, mentor, and
develop a high-performing revenue generation department, fostering
a culture of collaboration, accountability and innovation.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with the
overall mission and goals of the athletic program. Primary Sport
Administrator for Men's Basketball: This person will serve as the
main point of contact for the Men's Basketball program, providing
leadership, guidance, and support to ensure its success.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, sports management,
or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years
of experience in revenue generation, business development, or
fundraising, preferably in collegiate athletics or a related
industry. Proven track record of success in developing and
executing revenue growth strategies. Strong negotiation skills and
experience managing partnerships, sponsorships, licensing
agreements, and capital projects. Exceptional communication and
interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with
diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of the collegiate athletics
landscape, including compliance and regulatory issues. Demonstrated
leadership capabilities and experience managing teams. In
compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range
for this position is $173,600-$180,000 . St. John’s University
